President Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with Catholic Leaders

Taoiseach of Ireland also attends brunch at the White House.

President Joe Biden hosted a brunch at the White House in honor of St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday. Attendees included Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of Ireland and leaders from the Catholic Bishops Conference and the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.

President Biden and Taoiseach Varadkar also spoke at a St. Patrick’s Celebration. President Biden said, “Look, St. Patrick’s Day is about friendship.“

He continued, “St. Patrick’s Day is a joyful occasion.  It’s a time to remember with pride our ties to the Emerald Isle — the land of poets and dreamers, fierce fighters, hard workers who endured decades of poverty and subjugation and persevered through it all, because the Irish spirit can never — can never — can never be overcome.“

Taoiseach Varadkar stated, “Exactly 100 years ago, the United States became the first country to formally recognize the newly independent Irish state and establish diplomatic relations. The exchange of ambassadors recognized the sacred promise that had been made between our peoples, forged over centuries, and reflecting the powerful bond between our countries.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they continue to pursue aid for Ukraine and Gaza.
  • For administration officials as they engage international leaders and forge partnerships and agreements.
